Over golf fitting
Am I good enough to get fit?
One of the biggest misconceptions is that high handicappers or beginner players are not yet good enough to be fitted. For these players in particular, it is important that the equipment fits the swing or player better than for a lower handicapper who can adapt more easily. It is precisely the higher handicapper who will see rapid improvement with well-fitted clubs compared to their existing equipment.
Why custom fitting?
We are all unique, and we take it for granted that many things around us fit, such as shoes. With golf clubs, however, people quickly start thinking: 'I just have to adapt to the clubs' or 'this is a good or expensive brand, so it must be good.' Unfortunately, the assumption that the shaft flex is always what it says on the label does not hold true. Here, we experience very large differences that are comparable to clothing, for instance. A size M in the US certainly fits differently than the same size from Italy. Especially since we are dealing with 14 clubs in the golf bag, it is important to know the correct flex and match them to each other for a homogeneous feel. The wrong clubs, shafts, and simple things like grips and the balance of the golf club can prevent this beautiful sport from becoming easier or more consistent. By having the right fitting tailored to the individual swing and then fitting the clubs into the bag accordingly, you are guaranteed to get more enjoyment out of your game.
Do you only supply custom-made clubs or also standard stock clubs?
We can supply both. If you choose to take ready-made stock, that is of course possible, and we will advise you accordingly. Naturally, our great added value lies in highlighting the benefits of customization and then delivering it as such. Through advice or a discussion, you may arrive at very logical explanations as to why certain things need to be taken into account, but someone has to tell you.
What sets you apart from other fitters?
Every shop and Pro fits clubs in their own way, but the outcome almost always results in a factory order, meaning you receive standard clubs that might be slightly longer or shorter and potentially upright or flat bent. Here at Golf Etc., all clubs are custom-built with the utmost care to the required specifications. We are therefore pleased with the exclusive partnership with a number of major, well-known brands for which we are a dealer for individual components, including Callaway, Srixon, Cleveland, Cobra, TaylorMade, and Mizuno.
My swing isn't always the same. Does this affect the fitting?
Through proper club fitting, we can help find clubs that fit the player as consistently as possible and are also tuned to form a unified set. We all have our good days and, unfortunately, our off days, but generally speaking, our swing characteristics do not change that dramatically. It is a quest to find the right combination for the player of the necessary dose of clubhead forgiveness, corresponding loft and lie, and the right shaft. After all, golf is very easy to summarize: how good are your bad shots?
How long does a fitting take and what happens during that time?
A complete fitting takes us approximately 3 hours. After measuring the current equipment and following an intake interview with the driver and 6 iron, we collect data using the Trackman, which we then process into our unique fitting system. From there, we assess to what extent the existing equipment still fits and can be adjusted, or we look for better-performing new equipment. We have many brands and options to test, from well-known brands to perhaps some lesser-known hidden gems.
What do I bring to a fitting?
For a complete fitting, please bring the entire set of clubs you currently play with — including clubs you may have removed because you didn't like them. Also, bring your golf shoes and glove, and it is practical to wear comfortable clothing. Don't forget the ball you always play with, as we can provide the necessary advice regarding that as well.
What happens after the fitting?
After a fitting session, we have reached a conclusion regarding which material choice will work best. We will then prepare a suitable quotation and send it to you by email. Once the choice has been made, we will assemble the desired clubs here in our own workshop and will contact you immediately when they are ready. Depending on the order — which we will also indicate in the quotation — this will usually take around two weeks.
Do you have various brands of clubs, shafts, and different flexes?
We have a very large assortment of clubs, shafts, and grips from all the major well-known brands, as well as some that are less familiar to some. We also have a wide range of shafts in various flexes, from Ladies to X Stiff. However, if you have a specific question or wish to choose a club and/or shaft that is not listed on the site, just give us a call and we can tell you whether it is available and if it is possible to arrange for you to test it here via a fitting.
Can I just walk in to test clubs?
You are always welcome in our shop, and generally no appointment is needed to test putters. To test clubs in our hitting room or for a fitting, it is necessary to make an appointment ( 31 (0)40 20 30 489) so that we can dedicate all our time to providing the right advice.
I have purchased existing clubs or clubs from elsewhere. Can you fit those as well?
That depends somewhat on what we can still adjust. For example, shaft placement, club swingweight (balance factor), correct loft and lie, and grip (thickness) are options we can usually modify. It is therefore better to have clubs properly fitted before purchasing them to avoid guesswork or simply assuming that what is on the label is correct. We can, of course, completely replace existing clubs with new shafts to achieve more optimal or necessary specifications, but at some point, the advice might be to part ways with the old clubs and opt for better-fitting new ones. We are happy to provide you with honest advice regarding this.
The fitting takes place indoors. Why?
For a large number of golfers, an indoor fitting will take some getting used to, but this has several advantages over an outdoor driving range. You might notice that almost all good fitters choose an indoor range. It is true that you might not immediately see the full ball flight, but a good fitter will not focus too much on the swing — that is what the Pros are for — but rather on tailoring the equipment to the player. If, during an outdoor fitting, you see your first shots heading to the left, for example, you will quickly adjust your technique just like any other player, putting yourself at the service of the equipment instead of the desired reverse; as a result, the spontaneity of the swing quickly disappears.
Another reason is that during the fitting we will use the actual ball that one would use during a normal round, and we will not use a typically fairly worn driving range or 80% ball on which a Trackman or similar device has to perform any calculations.
Furthermore, during an indoor fitting, work is always carried out at the same temperature for a fair comparison, summer or winter.
